Jupiter Heating Systems has been successfully installing specialised underfloor heating systems in historic buildings for nearly twenty years. Over these years the company has developed unique solutions that are now well tried and certainly well tested within buildings throughout the country.
Successfully heating old buildings is achieved with a combination of skills. Understanding how the building envelope performs is one aspect but understanding what impact the sometimes precious floor finishes have on the heating strategy is another. Jupiter understand this more than other suppliers and have made a point of concentrating on this at design stage.

Heating rooms with high ceilings
Underfloor heating is now recognised as the best way to heat high ceiling buildings. As can be seen in this schematic, convected heat rises to the top of a space and provides a lot of heat where it is least needed. Most convected heat is lost through the roof unless it is well insulted. Radiant heat on the other hand provides heat where it is needed and dissipates gradually as it rises. Interesting with radiant floor heating it is not necessary to insulated roofs. |
Dry building solutions
Jupiter is a pioneer of dry building techniques in the UK. Recognised on the continent as a trade in itself, dry building technology utilises methods that, as the name suggests, are not water based such as concrete or screed. This of course is helpful when working within a property that has historic fabric. Bringing on gallons of water into an old buiding goes against natural instinct.
As well as being known as a supplier and installer of underfloor heating systems we are also considered specialists in dry floor construction. We employ a variety of unique technigues unlike any other company in the UK. You can find further details on dry building technology on our main website
Installing underfloor heating between old floor joists
Floors in the majority of old and historic buildings consist of floor joists finished with floor boards. Our solution within existing joists typically provides 3 pipes per void which in itself is unique. No other provider installs a system with such care and consideration. Jupiter has developed such an effectve means of installing underfloor heating within existing floor joists that we will even guarantee that your newly installed tiled or stone floors will never crack. We have installed heating systems in a variety of properties ranging from small family houses to historic buidings such as the Great Hall at Lincoln's Inn.
Chris Kollmer started Jupiter Heating Systems in 2004 and has since delivered countless heating systems in many historic buildings around the UK. These include numerous projects at Oxford University such as Brasenose and Oriel Colleges as well as the large scale refurbishment of the New Weston Library.
Chris has also advised on and completed many church projects throughout the UK.
